The plant is small bushy shrub or tree, 3-35 feet in height growing at an altitude ranging from 8800 to 15,400 feet in the Himalayan region . The berries are plucked from the branches of the plant once a year and dried and ground before distillation which produces the oil.
Marjoram oil has a warm, slightly spicy smell and is colorless to pale yellow/amber in color. This tender bushy perennial herb, about 60cm (24 in) high, has a hairy stem, dark green oval leaves and small white or pink flowers.
Olibanum is basically a gum-resin from small trees and thorny bushes of the Burseracean family. The They are growing in the northern Somali republic and in southern Arabia. Olibanum is one of the oldest aromatic materials used.
